Mpower Partner: City of Madison

The City of Madison is purchasing a portion of renewable energy from MGE to power their buildings, but they are also harnessing their own clean energy! This year, the City of Madison will triple the number of installed solar electric systems, from 1 to 4, on their buildings. Soon after the snow melts, the number of solar hot water systems installed will shoot from 4 to 11, with seven more solar hot water systems benefiting our City’s fire stations. And the projected carbon savings from all of this hard work? An estimated 42 tons of CO2 will be saved!

Sunny times ahead

Yes, the snow is on its way out and the sun is bursting its way in! Now is the perfect time to call Focus on Energy for a solar site assessment. The site assessor's Pathfinder will tell you if your home has good access to the sun and the assessor will also analyze your energy use. The Cash-back rewards and the Implementation grants will help cover a portion of the installation cost, so the time is right! Remember, each 2.5 kWh solar system eliminates 3.5 tons or 7,000 pounds of CO2 per year, and each residential solar hot water system eliminates 1,800 pounds CO2 per year.

Edgewood takes the pledge

Edgewood College recently joined Madison’s Mpowered organizations seeking to reduce their carbon emissions by another 10%. Edgewood has already implemented a number of energy saving technologies before their pledge – fiberglass/foam insulation, low-emissive windows, day-lighting – and a solar system. Solar panels were installed on the new residence hall to provide pre-heat energy for hot water use in the residence hall. The projected energy savings over conventional water heaters is 15%. We congratulate Edgewood on their previous hard work and look forward to seeing the initiatives for the next 10% reduction!
